The life of a performer in Dubai

As a singer in Dubai I find it exciting as there are always a variety of performing jobs with so many events, launches and hotel openings in Dubai.

As a trained actress it is an advantage to be versatile as clients are always looking for something different.  I sing with many different musicians in Dubai and perform various styles of music, depending on what clients would like.

My performing work at the moment includes Diva shows with other female vocalists, which include close harmony work.  Flash mobs have been very popular for events and also corporate Murder Mystery shows, which require more rehearsals as there are usually 5 or 6 acts per script and a cast of 7 or 8.

Another act that I have is my Marilyn Monroe impersonation, which is very popular for private events in Dubai. As she is a legendary icon, I am booked for events both big and small, from private birthday parties to large Oil Baron Balls that require Marilyn to sing, pose for the cameras while meeting and greeting guests.

Voiceover work is also exciting in the UAE because there are always varied scripts and fun jingles to sing.  Clients are always happy to give you flexibility as an actor; to experiment with accents and through-lines of the script. You can play with the lines until the client is happy with your take on it.

Also being in the UAE I get asked to be involved in some exciting projects. The most recent script I was handed was an animated film called ‘Abood’s Lost Camel’, which was a long time in the making but was exciting once it was all edited and put together for the premiere.

I always say, “Never a dull day as a performer in Dubai!”
